The Louisiana Purchase
My contribution to Momentus. The brain child of Evan Stremke, the Momentus project is a collection of artists depicting significant events in U.S. history. http://momentusproject.com/
When doing research about the Louisiana Purchase, I found it's actually quite a complicated story—Napoleon was quite the mover and shaker, by which I mean he had a knack for making people angry. I was having a problem trying to figure out how to condense all of this turmoil with Spain and Haiti into one illustration. It wasn't until I refocused on the fact that this project is about U.S. history that I realized that a more simple approach was the way to go. A deal of this magnitude between two larger than life (metaphorically of course) men is a great story in itself.
