I’m excited to announce I’ll be working with Contributor on a unique charity art auction! Rather than try to weakly summarize what the whole thing is about, here’s the official press release.

ABOUT “ONE WAY OR ANOTHER”

We’ve teamed up with Society6 and Club Mumble to curate our second art show in support of Contributor. Building on the success of last year’s group show, “One Way Or Another” plays upon the personal nature of a skateboard. Things like how you grip your board, how loose your trucks are, and heck, how you know that the size of your wheels down to the slightest of millimeters will make the hugest difference. In the end, this little wooden toy seems to be made just for you.

Combining an open call at Society6 and a group of specially invited guests (curated by Andy Jenkins, Bob Kronbauer, Sandro Grison, Justin Cooper, Mike Giles & Annie Lam), we have selected over 40 artists/collectives from around the world to create original artwork on full-size blank maple decks. These specially made boards will be sold at our online shop, with all the proceeds going directly back to getting skateboards to kids across Canada.

What makes this project unique is that rather than people buying a already finished piece of artwork, their purchase will commission an artist/studio to make a board especially for them, so when it arrives, it’s an awesome surprise – kind of like a familiar chocolate with a hidden tasty centre!

ART SALE INFO

To see full listing of artists, please visit www.wearecontributors.com
* Sale continues from July 8 to August 15, 2010
Online shop can be accessed directly at wearcontributors.bigcartel.com
I can’t make it again this year, I’ll explain shortly, and this year I actually had two really good reasons to go.

As you all know, I work with charity/art organization RobotsandMonsters.org. Its founder, Joe Alterio, is taking part in a panel on March 15. Titled Indirect Collaboration: Collective Creativity on the Web, the panel will discuss how the internet and crowd-sourcing affect the creative process. more info

Test Everything, the zine that I did these drawings for, is cohosting a whirlwind of zine making. Winners! Press, Domy Books, and Test Everything are going to try to create 20 zines in 2 days, and they need your help! All of the content is going to be created at the event, so drop Domy books by March 19th & 20th if you’re in the area.

The reason I won’t be going to SXSW is because I’ll be gone all next week on my HONEYMOON! We’re headed to beautiful Barcelona. My wife wrote a little bit about it on her blog. I might post a couple pictures while I’m there, but if not, I’ll see ya’ll back here in a week.

It’s been quiet on this blog lately because I’m trying to get a new site started up called FridayNightFeature.tv.

I’ve been working on some animation and video projects lately and I gotta say, it’s a lot of work trying to do everything by yourself. Animating, concepting, finding music, etc, gets pretty tiring. And I know I could take on more ambitious projects if I could just get some people to work with (not to mention it could be a lot more fun). Friday Night Feature is a site where I hope to find collaborators of any kind.

Eventually I would like the site to become about more than just helping me find some cool people. I would like to see it grow into a whole community of talented people that easily contact each other for whatever they want. WriterX has an idea and thinks that CharacterArtistY has really great style and that AnimatorZ obviously knows his way around after effects so they all end up working together. Something like that.

So, please, if you want to join in on Friday Night Feature, or you know someone who might be interested, email me at emoryallen@gmail.com.

St. Louis, MO—On June, 6, 13, 20 and 27, you’ll find the largest collection of plushies and stuffies in some of St. Louis’ hottest shops from artists and crafters all around the world. Organizers seek ardent fans of plush to submit essays and hand made plush goods for inclusion in a show and comprehensive book, Crammed Organisms, to be published this spring. Artwork and essays should align with the theme: Fairy, Folk and Fable. The published book will be for sale during the show. What is plush? Plush is the modern word for stuffed animals (no, we’re not talking about taxidermy…), also known as stuffies, plushies and now Crammed Organisms.
