The complete Calendar of Impending Apocalypse!

Description: To celebrate all of us reaching the metaphorical finish line of this race called life, David Huyck of Cloudy Collection curated the 2012 Calendar of the Impending Apocalypse. My contribution, imagines that the giant hamster at the center of the world will finally pass away from old age. Oh, you didn’t know the Earth spins thanks to a giant, old hamster? Well, know you do.

Description: There’s been such a great upswell of support for the the people of Japan from the design & illustration community (and everyone else, really). I couldn’t very well sit around and not put my drawing skills to use!

My goal with the piece was to create a message that could live on even after Japan has recovered. As cheesy as it sounds, I kinda wanted to make a new “Hang In There Baby!” I don’t want to downplay the reason I created the piece in the first place—I just want to remind everyone that whether your troubles are big or small, hope can help you pull through.

Maybe a 3 color version works better? I think it makes the piece more fun because you have to try and find everything.

Ryan Clark, cofounder of Invisible Creature and lead vocalist for Demon Hunter, posted a nice little write up about the creation of the latest Demon Hunter album art on the Demon Hunter blog. With a perfect blend of design and illustration, Invisible Creature is easily one of my favorite studios right now. Any insight I get into their process is really inspiring.

After a holiday hiatus, Robots and Monsters has opened its doors for round 4! This time around, we’re working with Doctors Without Borders who are currently deeply involved in Haiti relief efforts. We’re also welcoming three new artists into the fold–Molly Crabapple, Jeannine Schafer, and Michael Fleming.

You know the deal, right? Give us three words and a few dollars, in return you get a one-of-a-kind art piece and part of the proceeds go to charity!
