Awesome music videos
These are the two best music videos that I’ve seen in a long time. The best thing about these videos is that I love both the music and the visuals.

Ninjasonik describes what the love about art school girls and if you’ve been to an art school in the past five years (maybe longer?) you know exactly what they’re talking about.

It’s really bugging me that I can’t remember the name of artist who did the above graphic. Found it. Razauno

The Bake Sale is the first EP from The Cool Kids. They’re a Chicago based hip-hop duo who’s single Black Mags has been floating around the internet for a while. They’re one of those groups who got famous through myspace. They were even featured on a Tivo commercial long before their first album dropped.
I’ve been waiting for this album for a while (I first heard Black Mags over half a year ago) and I’m not disappointed. The Bake Sale is a lo-fi throwback to the 80’s – a time where rappers weren’t bragging about how many they shot and instead were spittin rhymes about their new shoes and haircuts. All of their beats are self produced and very minimal. It’s a breath of fresh air in a genre where overproduction is king (Timbaland, anyone?).
The album art is by Brooklyn based Kimou Meyer aka Grotesk. I think it matches perfectly with homemade retro style of the album.
French group Justice’s new video. Normally I’m against ripping off, i mean repurposing, old logos but this video is just so damned cool.

shotsringout.com has some behind the scene pics of the upcoming music video for Bjork’s “Wanderlust”. Encyclopedia Pictura is behind the video and they’ve created some of the most imaginitive and dreamy videos I’ve seen in the past couple years. A couple great examples are the music videos for Grizzly Bear’s “the Knife” and Zion I’s “So Tall”(both of those videos were in Antville’s lists for best music videos of the year for 2007 and 2006 respectively).

It’s rare that I get excited about a record label because it seems like they aren’t what they used to be. The record label as a standard of quality has largely become meaningless. A record label’s name on an album doesn’t guarantee a good product anymore. Fortunately, there are people out there that remember that putting there company’s name on an album should be a stamp of approval – “We put our name on this because we listened to it and it’s GOOD”. Stones Throw is a record label made up of those people. Home to great artists like Madlib, Peanut Butter Wold, J Dilla(R.I.P.), and Percee P, it’s hard to not believe these guys know what they’re doing.
Stones Throw 102 : In Living The True Gods is the second DVD from the record label. It compiles music videos from pretty much the whole Stones Throw family, some behind the scenes stuff, and an interview with J Dilla. If you haven’t heard of Stones Throw before, pick up this DVD and I guarantee you’ll believe that record labels aren’t dead. If you have heard of Stones Throw, what are you waiting for?
